“We have quite a special exhibition for a whole year,” says Curator Marie Amalie Skinnebach from CC Create x Monster Chetwynd: A Feather in Your Hat!, now open at Copenhagen Contemporary from April 13, 2025, to March 1, 2026. This hands-on exhibition turns Hall 4 into a giant 800-square-meter art studio, inviting visitors to get creative and take part in the process.
Inspired by British performance artist Monster Chetwynd, the space features playful and bizarre elements like giant moths, bats, and twisted cat heads. But what really makes this exhibition stand out is that “CC Create is totally a concept,” designed to blend the world of workshops with gallery space. “We wanted to take the workshop and put it in the exhibition,” the team explains. Visitors can make hats, then even display their creations right there.
The setting itself adds meaning. Once an industrial site turned theatre, the space is now returning to its roots: “We are trying to take it back to the studio, atelier vibe where people can get involved.” And with Chetwynd’s recycled, stage-inspired artworks filling the hall, it’s a perfect match. “Everything is just touched and recycled,” echoing both the building’s and the artist’s spirit of transformation.
This is more than an art show, it’s a place to play, create, and be part of something messy, fun, and completely unique.
